Read about “Body image” on Clio and make the “reading guide” while reading. Look up words you don’t understand. Make sure that everyone in the group understands the text.

When you are finished reading, answer the following questions:
- What is a perfect body to you? (mention both men and women)
- Do you choose your friends in the light of their bodies?
- Which body images can harm you?
- Even though political figures are not fashion models, their clothes and appearance are eagerly discussed – why? – And do you think it matters when we value them?
- It is said that people of all shapes and sizes can be attractive – do you think that is true and why/why not?
- When it comes to the point – do you think girlfriends/boyfriends are chosen because they are good looking or because they are smart?
- It is said that the constant barrage of unrealistically skinny images can stir up feelings of inadequacy, anxiety and depression – why do you think that happens?
- Do you think it is okay that the media show such images?
- Many celebrities suffer from negative body images – why?
- Some men believe that their appearance is much more important to women than women report it is. Why do men (and women) have such unrealistic ideas about the other sex’ view on them?
- Do you think cosmetic surgery will make people happier?
